Wordy Wednesday: Help SPCA International Rescue More Animals from the War Zone

One of our favorite animal rescue agencies, SPCA International, sent out this plea to supporters yesterday:

"Please help U.S. soldier Dan Irvin and his wife Renee by voting for their Operation Baghdad Pup, Bagger, in the Bissell Most Valuable Pet Contest. Bagger is already ranked 20th out of over 2000 participants. If Bagger's photo wins Bissell will donate $10,000 to Operation Baghdad Pups to ensure that more soldiers like Dan can bring home their patriot pets. Your vote could get us the win."

This is the photo of Bagger, a happy dog living stateside!

Operation Baghdad Pups has been super successful in bringing dogs and cats adopted by troops in the war zone HOME. It is easy to help: just click on the MVP graphic posted on the side bar and it will take you to Bagger's entry . It will take a few minutes to register, but it is worth it. I thought this Bissell program might be of interest to some of our blog friends who are involved in volunteering and fundraising for their local rescue groups. It looks like a great way to raise money. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

PeeEssWoo: Mom got a chukhkle out of the sheet khomment! Those sheets were from her bed when she lived here as an older young pup - she liked them and brought them - probably at a store that is out of business by now!

What a great idea! We also want to welcome Whiskey - what a cutie. (We're not very good at keeping up with commenting these days.) Mom used to ride quarter horses when she lived in Canada and she's very fond of them.

Regarding the raw foods Mom just buy our stuff at our regular grocery store. But we're lucky because it has a big meat section that have a policy of always having a few odd items, but what will vary every few days/weeks. We mainly get the odd stuff because it's cheaper than what people usually eat. She often get whatever is expiring soon and is at half price.

I know in the US very many have access to co-ops that buy large amounts/freezer burnt meats and so on and can have prices down to 1$/pound (We pay maybe 6-10$/pound). We're lucky and have a producer of raw dog food about 2 hours drive from here which was where we used to drive to buy before when all the dogs ate raw and I had a big freezer. I paid maybe 3$/pound which is very reasonable by Norwegian standards.
